Bukit Kiara 2004 Posted by THP on Monday, June 7, 2004 @ 12:00 AM (GMT+0800) | On June 5, 2004, this session took place at the joggers track located in the middle of the Bukit Kiara jungle reserve, somewhere near the IBM building in TTDI. With an adequate course length of 0.8 km, with some mild technical sections to spice it up, the pavement consists of smooth tarmac, with various points of access to the abundant offroad downhill MTB tracks located throughout. The session proved to be fun in its own right, with an easily managed group that consisted of Furlong, Ivan, iry, Abang Iman, Ariff Budiman, Joe Ipoh, and Fitri. Furlong was the street luge instructor of the day, teaching Ariff Budiman to ride. Ariff Budiman is a skatepark construction designer who also happens to be a hardcore skateboarder, BMX dirt rider, as well as a downhill MTB rider. Ivan is a tag-along rider friend from Raleigh International Malaysia who happened to sign the THP guestbook over a year ago, expressing interest in street luge, and who is still learning the basics from Furlong. Abang Iman drove the chase truck and communicated with the flaggers using the 2-way radio. Fairy and Fitri helped us out by taking photos and videos at different corners, as well as watching the road for traffic (what little there is) and using flags to warn the riders, equipped with another 2-way radio. Joe Ipoh, the 2004 Asian X-Games Skateboard Park Silver Medalist, even joined us for the downhill fun. He brought his skateboard and did 2 runs standing up, carving powerslides to slow himself down. He sure should pick up downhill skateboarding and get a proper downhill deck! It was a very hot sunny day, typical of tropical Malaysian weather. Nevertheless, everyone enjoyed themselves!
