Relive
the Bainbridge nostalgia by watching the IGSA Bainbridge Grand
Prix 2001 music video! Witness the classic lugers braking
real hard to avoid slipping at Turn 2 on a wet road, with
Rusty Riley sliding out into the hay! Watch in awe as Bob
Swartz takes the bottom chicane in what appears to be brakeless!
Hold your breath for the street luge finals as Tom Mason holds
off Rusty Riley and John Fryer at the finish line, with Andy
Lally trailing closely not far behind!

In
preparation for this event, THP has produced another music video,
highlighting the IGSA Bainbridge Grand Prix 2001. Although this
video may seem to be outdated, what with the event being over 3
years ago, captured on VHS-C (not even Mini-DV!), with less than
amateurish videocamera handling skills by young teenaged spectators
(but hey, without them, this video would not have been possible!),
its significance is largely symbolized by the fact that the event
was Abdil "Furlong" Mahdzan's first race ever attended.
This race marks the turning point of Team Hardcore Pavement since
its founding days in 1998 from a recreational team to a racing team.
It was this event that made the team founder realize that street
luge racing was the ultimate thrill.
This
is not to say that THP will forget its recreational roots. Everyone
has to start from that level. It is just up to the individual just
how far he or she wants to progress in the sport. With street luge
racing being the team's current focus, the lifelong goal of promoting
street luge in Malaysia is just another step away. It is with great
hope that THP will transcend even further, by organizing more freeride
sessions with the objective of getting more Malaysians seriously
involved in gravity sports, and hopefully, to run its first official
event in Malaysia. |
