After the recent event at Bukit
Kiara was over, it was time to collect videos and photos taken by various people at the event. Also, a few testimonials had
been written by some of the riders that participated in the event. All this is then compiled and presented below.

TESTIMONIALS
Sukeats
Lying on
my back, barreling down a hill, barely an inch above unforgiving asphalt wasn't exactly how I wanted to nurse a New Year's
hangover. But there I was, bright and early on the 1st and 2nd of January 2005, at the Street Luge Riding Session organized
by Furlong and the boys of Team Hardcore Pavement.
From a
rollerblader's perspective, street luge is an odd sport.
"Where are
the tricks?"
"It's
called a what? Buttboard?"
"Full
leather get up? k-i-n-k-y"
But after
seeing the guys zoom past at god-knows-how-many-km-per-hour with nothing stopping them but a pair of home-modified shoes with
extra soles and even curious jaywalking monkeys, they have my respect. I could only manage inching along on a buttboard at
speeds even snails would mock before calling it a day.
Full props
to Furlong and the boys for a fun day out!

KJ
New Year's
charity riding and introduction, that's how I would title this New Year's street luge riding session! Definitely an eye
opener to a lot of new people in this country that obviously have not seen the sport of street luge before and the downhill
culture it promotes.
Firstly, I
would like to say it's been a great event to have so many new participants to try out this time around. For those that
participated, I would like to say a big thank you for participating and also volunteering in the event. The secondary
objective for the event had also been achieved, which was to donate and help the tsunami victims around Asian countries to
recover. All our drinks were sold out and there were so many people participating, thanks to the courageous students for
being patient to learn the sport and I had fun teaching you all too (you know who you are) and the best thing was that we had
a lot of exposure this time around thanks to Malaysia.TV and also to KJRollers for rolling around. It was great seeing you
guys going downhill on those extreme skates.
There
were plenty of crashes, but that's what it's all about right? At least there were no serious injuries! There wouldn't be
anyway, because we are all well equipped! Thanks to Furlong for the protective gear! Great shot of Chino and Ivan crashing
too! You guys got to check it out!
But, this
time around I didn't get to ride that much, because I was spending more time teaching the beginners on how to ride, whereas
Furlong was having fun all along! He demonstrated some of his best riding skills at the event that made everybody went
"whoa". All along the race heats I was just given a classic luge to ride on. It wasn't fair!
Lastly, I
would like to see this sport to grow as big as it is in other countries. Such as having a lot more participants and dedicated
riders such as Furlong. Not to the extent of holding an international competition in Malaysia (although we would hope to in
the future) but locally established competitions and riders. I'm all out to support in this sport. A lot of people see this
sport as a very dangerous and scary sport. But if you haven't tried it, you won't get to feel the sport and how safe the
sport is. With a dedicated team of volunteers and the equipment that would be provided, the next thing you know it's as fun
as a highly secured roller coaster ride!
Wish I
had more time to luge in similar events again! It has been a great pleasure to know all of you!

Chino
It was a
really good start for the year 2005, as THP founder Furlong had organized a street luge event in Malaysia. Although the event
did not go as planned (canceling the event at Bukit Tinggi and organizing it at Mont Kiara instead due to security reasons),
the turnout was better than that of any previous street luge session in Malaysia. We had proper safety measures, flaggers, a
truck driver (credit goes to Muiz), some crowd and media crew from Malaysia.TV. I must say that after a long time that I have
not been riding, the event gave me the opportunity to feel the adrenaline rush once more. I felt alive and kicking again! Now
I'm looking forward to the next event! |
